It is doable, but it is just more work.Īnyway thanks for your post I guess it is just a binary thing with Arnold at the object level - visible or invisible. For a while, I was making a copy of the character mesh and just deleting the polys I didn't want. I guess similar to you, I make an Cutout/opacity map to hide the polys I don't want rendered since Arnold does respect the Cutout/opacity channel of the Physical material. This is pretty annoying when you have a character mesh with overlying clothes and you hide the underlying character polys (as a easy cheat) to avoid them showing through during an animation either via cloth simulation or skin wrap. Arnold renders them just like the unhidden polys. I had also come across the inability to animate visibility with Arnold but was struggling to understand why Arnold doesn't respect hidden polys in a mesh. That statement kind of turned on a light bulb for me. what do they do? Can they be animated? or are they just properties that are on or off?Īny advice is greatly the way Arnold works is that an object is either visible or not visible." Oh and can anybody shine some light one the use of the "Arnold Properties" modifier and it's visibility options? They are just text boxes. visibility is as fundamental as translate, scale or rotate. It seems so many people struggle with this one, there must be a solution that is simple and straight forward that were missing. Or, is there a material solution that will allow for the animation of visibility to the top level of a multi-sub material so that one can affect all the nested materials for a given object? Is there a modifier, script, or 3rd party plugin that will allow for animation of transparency at the object or group level? but I've lot's of objects and lots of materials nested into multi-subs. Animating the "cutout" in the material does work great. They do in the workspace but not the render (using physical materials) how do we animate visibility using Arnold in max 2022?
